Joy Kees
I discovered sculpting in the early 80’s. I was struggling with the wheel in a beginner pottery class
and ended up using my time to form figures. That’s when the insightful instructor suggested that I
consider a sculpting class. That was the start of a life-long passion. Since then, through a
combination of formal and informal training, as well as personal experimentation, I have honed my
techniques and found my artistic voice as a sculptor.
I enjoy using a variety of processes and materials in my work. Whatever the medium, I want my art to
evoke an emotion or memory, or perhaps encourage a different point of view. Language often drives
my work, with a line from a song, or a verse of poetry or scripture inspiring a piece.
I look forward to what comes next!
