HANDS ON ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE PAINTING DEMO

Harriet will show the use of color and how to create abstract landscapes from around here.

Harriet graduated from the University of North Texas in Fine Arts. She taught art in Dallas and became a professional artist while raising a family. She paints in oils and acrylics and sculpts in clay.

HANDS ON ACRYLIC DUTCH AND DIPPED POUR PAINTING DEMO

Artist statement:

"There are many different techniques with acrylic pour. We will be doing a Dutch pour and a dipped pour. Neither use a paint brush. You can use the same colors and technique and your result will always be different. It is always a surprise."

HAND ON PALETTE KNIFE TECHNIQUE
Artists Statement:
Creating has always been in my soul.  It has taken on many forms over the years until settling in watercolor, quilting, knitting and fabric collage.

Oil painting is and has been my media of choice.  One starts off simple and it either loses you or snares you.  I was forever trapped in this wonderful fluid medium.  My love and draw was always toward the impressionists.  I took many, many workshops from impressionist painters and always learned something, but was also frustrated and never really satisfied.  I won awards and sold a lot of paintings but something was missing for me.

Then I quit painting for several years and only recently have begun again.  It has been freeing!  I am painting for me; experimenting and taking chances.  My work is about color, movement and feeling.  If a subject grabs me, I want it to grab you.  Let me introduce you to taking chances, taking risks and starting over and over....

Kim Roberti - July 1

PASTEL OIL PAINTING DEMO

Artist Statement:
“I paint what I want to see, tell the story I want to tell, convey the experiences with people and places I want to share.”  Although majority of my work are in oil, it doesn't limit me to explore and love such medium as acrylic, watercolor and pastel.

Kim Roberti was born in Vietnam, settled in New Hampshire, and now retired to Texas. Kim started to paint at the age of 50 via a mid-life crisis. Seeking to understand the artistry of being an artist, Kim worked and studied privately for Sherrie McGraw and David Leffel every summer for 6 years. She loves the spontaneity of Milt Kobayashi and has attended his workshops. Kim is a member of the Daily Painters movement and contributes 1 – 3 paintings a day and sells her paintings on Ebay. To date Kim has painted and sold close to 3,000 of her works worldwide, garnishing numerous collectors.

Kim won the Jack Richardson award in pastel painting in early 2000. Her work graced the cover of Dick Blick’s catalog cover and she has been published in books and magazines.“I am more focused on learning than competing, so my competition is to better myself today over yesterday. It’s my journey.”

Dakotah Flannery - June 3

Picture
POLYMER CLAY BEGINNER BASICS

During this demo she will cover all the basics including conditioning properly, safety, minimum tools needed, specialty tools, proper curing, blends, simple canes, complex canes and cane reduction. If time permits she will also cover stamping into clay, how to cover objects and the liquid polymer clay applications.

By the time Dakotah was 8 she was designing, knitting, crocheting and sewing clothing for her dolls and using marbles, beads, string and found objects as jewelry. She sold her first necklace - a shellacked seahorse on a red ribbon to a tourist on Galveston Island at age 10. She discovered polymer clay in 1980 and it has become her medium of choice creating jewelry, bowls, boxes, home decor and mixed media OOAK art pieces. She has been on the board of directors of the Houston Polymer Clay Guild and the International Polymer Clay Association as well as published articles for specialty polymer clay magazines. “For me, creating is about taking people to a place of joy, even if only for a few moments, to have that ‘wow!’ moment”.

Lisa Miller - May 6

ZEN PATTERN DESIGN - ANYONE CAN DRAW,  THIS IS A HANDS ON DEMO

Zen Pattern Design is a pleasurable, meditative art that starts with no preconceived ideas as to the result.  The difference between it and abstracted doodling is emphasis on relaxation and focus.  Everyone has experienced that creative moment when they enter 'the Zone' and time passes without notice or stress.

Learning a few easy patterns, shading and embellishing as you please leads to confidence and small-motor muscle coordination. The patterns are non-representational and work in any orientation, so there is no 'wrong' drawing. Beginning with a small piece of quality paper and an archival ink pen ensures that your drawing will be beautiful-and you'll finish it today!

Lisa Miller is a self-taught artist of several abstract, ethnic and fusion styles of art. Beginning with Australian Aboriginal style techniques including dot painting, she quickly cycled through henna design and recurring ancient and modern patterns. Most appealing to her is Repetition, Rhythm and Pattern.

Donna Bland - Apr 1

LANDSCAPES HANDS ON OIL PAINTING

Donna Bland is a nationally known impressionist artist.  she studied art at The Student Art League in New York, Scottsdale School of Art, the University of Georgia and Tyler Jr. College. As an art student in Georgia, Donna learned to paint scenes that interested her and later realized that art subjects are unlimited. " My intention is to create a lasting visual reference of natural beauty. I love to learn, develop new approaches to stretch my artistic boundaries, create and share what I have experienced with others. Whether painting for someone with a special request, leading a workshop, painting outdoors in the Texas Hill Country, Arizona, Colorado, California or Mexico - my passion is creating a painting that reminds someone of a special moment, place or person in their lives".

Sharing her talent with others in workshop settings was a natural extension of her passion for art. Donna has found that her sold-out workshops is attributed to her love of art, a relaxed, pleasant environment that enhances the learning experience and the professional hand-on assistance to each artist.

Donna is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, the Austin Plein Air Painters, American Women Artists and Artists of Texas. She is recognized worldwide for her extraordinary talent and has received numerous awards and has paintings hanging in many corporations and private collections around the world.

Sheri Zoch - Mar 4

Picture
Fused Glass Mosaic Hands On Demo using the technique described below to create a mystery celebrity.

Dr. Sheri Zoch is a scientist turned artist. She owns and operates The Glass Menagerie in Llano, creating fused glass art. At the age of 40, Sheri decided that there was more to life than science, so she took the class "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", which blew her mind. She started taking classes in all art media and finally settled on fused glass. One of the projects during her first fused glass class was the construction of a mosaic of Marilyn Monroe. During this project, students were given a white glass tile, black glass powder, and a picture. The picture was a square from a cut-up larger picture of Marilyn. Students moved the powder around on the tile using their fingers, combs, toothpicks and other tools to mimic the square that they were given. The piece was fired in a kiln and assembled onto a backing to create the whole picture of Marilyn, which was revealed at the next class. Since then, Sheri has reproduced this technique at the Art Guild to create Marilyn, Captain Jack Sparrow and Willie Nelson.  She also worked with Llano High School art classes to create Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift.

Carla Sanchez - Feb 4

Picture
Interior Perspective
Paper, pencil and rulers will be provided for this demo.
In 2006, Carla began studying oil painting under the guidance of David Leffel and drawing as well as painting under Sherri Mc Graw, both modern Masters in their own rights. Carla traveled to paint with David and Sherri 5 to 6 times a year. She's been to Taos, Chicago, Santa Fe, Atlanta and Tampa. Today she still paints with David and Sherri infrequently. Carla has studied in Santa Fe at the Valdez School of Art with Kevin Gorges. In 2013 Carla met and became friends with Roseta Santiago. Roseta invited Carla to co- teach a workshop with her at the Quinlan. In 2014, Carla also painted with Kevin Beilfuss and Phil Starke.
